Known as Hollandale, Navasota was named after Francis Holland, who purchased the land in 1822. Many years later, James Nolan, another important figure in the history of Navasota, deeded the area free of charge in 1859. Nolan put up a few tents back in 1848 and built a log cabin in 1852.
